Pathways of Hope is a non-profit organization that strengthens families by provided housing and food services. As a part of their food services they created a Food Distribution Center that provides emergency surplus of groceries. They also help educate their community about healthy eating and good nutrition. As a part of the Food Distribution Center they would like to offer gardening classes to their families in what they call the Richman Community Garden.  That’s where we come in.  We have designed a small garden that is drought tolerant, will provide a beautiful edible space for the neighborhood, and be a hands on class room for anyone interested in learning.

The Garden is now growing!

Over a single weekend with the help of the Pathways of Hope community, our students, the Fullerton Service League of Boys, and students from Chapman University physical therapy program we were able to install 4 garden beds, 4 fruit trees, drought tolerant shrubs, vegetables, berries and install a efficient drip irrigation system! It was truly amazing to see the project come together so quickly and to see the excitement around the garden.

Community Board

Shortly after the garden was complete we installed a community board that will help the local community find out how to get involved with the garden. In this community many families don’t have access to internet or email, some don’t have telephones. We thought this solution would be an easy way for people to stay connected and know what is happening in the garden. We’ll be posting upcoming events, regular meeting times, a message board and let passerbys know what they can do to help or what they can eat! Stay tuned to see how this project unfolds…

Want to get involved?

Feel free to contact Pathways of Hope or Cultivate together to learn more. Starting April 12th we will be starting a twice a month after school class for the students of Richman Elementary School starting at 12:30 pm.
