Alopez: Festival #8

February 25, 2017   by Abby Lopez

What is better than bringing people together than with good food?… Good food and Art!  Today we will be learning about community outreach. In the community of Santa Ana at Saddleback Highschool,  a festival was held where many organizations gathered together preparing booths, informing families and making their services and products available to them. Organizations, such as OC Food Coalition, Cultivate Together, Farmer’s Market, Suja, Trader Joes and LPA to name a few supported this fun filled learning event to promote healthy lifestyles, art and film and bring together communities and family.

While I was there, I observed that kids like to work with their hands and are visual learners therefore, art is important when it comes to communicating and connecting to them about concepts like healthy food. By understanding the audience, we can better engage the community. In addition, through the guidance of educators, parents, community and participating in programs like these, we can better meet our mission to respond to the community needs and provide awareness, training and resources.
